Jongmoo Choi

Computer Vision Researcher / Principal ADAS Engineer@Canoo

Jongmoo Choi received a B.S. degree in Physics, an M.S. degree in Cognitive Science, and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea. From 1999 to 2003, he was the Director of the Research Institute at a biometrics company (Dream Mirh Co. Ltd.) and developed face recognition algorithms. Later, the technology was transferred to Incheon International Airport and the Korea National Policy Office. From 2004 to 2006, he was a Research Assistant Professor at the Intelligent Systems Research Center at Sungkyunkwan University and invented the 3D camera using signal separation coding. He also led the 3D sensing group and the 3D modeling group. From 2006 to 2011, he was a Postdoc Research Fellow at the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems at the University of Southern California in the United States. From 2011 to 2017, he was a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems at USC. He developed and transferred key technologies to Primesense, OpenNI, HP, Samsung, IQ Engines, Skycomp, Korean Air, ICT-USC, ETRI, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and various U.S. government agencies. He also worked at the Computer Graphics and Immersive Technologies (CGIT) Lab at USC from 2017 to 2018. Since 2019, he has been working at Canoo as a Principal ADAS Engineer, developing DMS (Driver Monitoring System) and ADAS features.
